Rural Generalist

Locum Rural Generalist | April Dates | Be the Difference in Brewarrina NSW

Welcome to Brewarrina—known fondly as “Bre” by the locals. A quiet riverside town rich in Aboriginal history, it’s home to the world’s oldest man-made structures: the Ngunnhu fish traps. It’s also a place where your skills as a doctor can have a meaningful impact.

For one week in April, you have the chance to be the heart of this community’s care. This isn’t just a locum role—it’s an opportunity to lead, support, and be part of something bigger.

The Position

We’re looking for a capable and community-minded Rural Generalist to step into the lead role in Brewarrina’s health service.

You’ll be the sole doctor on-site, supported by a tight-knit and experienced nursing team and the regional health network in Bourke. It’s a role suited to someone with strong ED experience and the confidence to manage a broad scope of care.

What the week looks like:

  • Monday–Friday: Based primarily in General Practice, with light ED check-ins and ward rounds.

  • After-hours: On-call, with nurses covering Cat 3–5 presentations to ensure you’re only called when necessary.

  • The facility includes a 3-bed ED, 8 acute beds, 12-bed aged care wing, and a renal dialysis unit.

You’ll have the space to practise true generalist medicine and the support to do it well.

Dates Available

14 April – 21 April 2025 (7 days)
Let us know if you’re interested in future blocks—we’ll keep you first in line.

How to Get There

Despite its remote charm, Brewarrina is surprisingly accessible.

  • Fly into Dubbo or Bourke (depending on your home base), and we’ll coordinate the rest.

  • From there, we’ll arrange ground transport or a connecting flight straight to Brewarrina.

  • Prefer to drive? We’ll provide a fully covered hire car and make sure everything’s waiting for you when you arrive.

As always, our logistics team handles every detail so you can focus on what matters—great medicine and a great experience.

What We Provide

  • $3,000 per day

  • Travel, car, and accommodation fully covered

  • Concierge-level support with credentialing, logistics, and onboarding—all managed by your dedicated recruitment partner

What We’re Looking For

  • Fellowship with RACGP or ACRRM

  • ALS2 certification

  • Recent and relevant ED experience

  • A genuine commitment to rural health and a flexible, can-do approach

Step Into Outback Medicine: Locum as a Rural Generalist in Warm, Welcoming Julia Creek

Make a meaningful impact in a well-supported hospital, while enjoying the lifestyle and warmth of remote Queensland.

At Prescript, we believe in placing doctors where they’re needed most — and where they’ll be supported to thrive. Julia Creek Hospital in outback Queensland is one of those places.

This is a locum opportunity for Rural Generalists who want to practise broad, meaningful medicine in a setting that values continuity, compassion, and clinical excellence. It’s also a chance to reconnect with the heart of healthcare — slower-paced, deeply human, and community-centred.

The Opportunity

Julia Creek Multi Purpose Health Service is a small, well-resourced Level 1 facility. You’ll join a capable and welcoming team that works closely to ensure seamless coverage and excellent support for incoming doctors.

You’ll work standard hours with on-call duties across the week, backed by strong telehealth support overnight. The facility includes residential aged care, short-stay inpatient beds, and a local palliative care service.

Role details:

  • Remote emergency support provided from 10:00 pm onwards

  • Mix of GP, emergency, aged care and palliative

This is a setting where your clinical judgment is trusted, your presence is appreciated, and you’ll be part of a team genuinely committed to rural healthcare.

Dates Available

We’re looking for doctors who are available between 5 May and 29 June 2025.
You can take on the full block or nominate one or more weeks — rosters are flexible and can be tailored to suit your availability.

  • Ongoing contact and support throughout your placement

The Location
