Locum AMS GP – $1,800–$2,000/day - Make an impact in QLD

$1,800–$2,000/day | Weekdays only | Make an impact in Aboriginal Medical Services

At Prescript, we help doctors find roles that offer more than just a change of scenery. These AMS GP locum opportunities with Gidgee Healing — one of Queensland’s most respected Aboriginal Medical Services — are your chance to contribute to healthcare access across the Gulf and North West regions. You’ll be part of a community-focused team providing essential care in locations where it’s genuinely needed — and where every shift matters.

Whether you’re experienced in Indigenous health or simply curious about making a purposeful contribution, you’ll be well supported at every step.

The Position

We’re seeking FRACGPs to join Gidgee Healing’s primary care teams across four key AMS locations. Each role is Monday to Friday only, with no on-call or weekend work. You’ll work alongside Aboriginal Health Workers, nurses, and practice managers in community-based settings where continuity of care and cultural respect come first.

Shorter blocks (2–3 weeks) are welcome, and repeat placements are common for doctors who fall in love with the work and the communities.

  • Doomadgee: Fly to Mount Isa, then a short connecting flight or 4WD transfer. A close-knit community with strong cultural roots.

  • Mornington Island: Charter flights via Mount Isa and Burketown or Normanton — a rare opportunity to work in a remote island setting.

We’ll walk you through the best route based on your dates and preferences and ensure all logistics, accommodation, and transport are arranged before you arrive.

Locum GP – Week On / Off in Coastal QLD | Low-Acuity ED + Flexible HITH Model - New Dates

Are you looking for a locum that lets you contribute to meaningful, patient-centred care without sacrificing your lifestyle? This is it.

At Prescript Recruitment, we’re dedicated to placing doctors in roles where their skills are valued and their time well spent. This flexible, week-on/week-off opportunity at Bundaberg Hospital gives you a rare chance to be part of a service reshaping how healthcare is delivered in regional Queensland.

The Position

You’ll join the Hospital in the Home (HITH) team, an established, forward-thinking service that provides acute hospital-level care to patients in their homes or community settings. Patients remain under hospital care while receiving daily visits or remote follow-up from the clinical team, reducing the need for in-hospital stays and supporting better outcomes.

Your role is primarily in the ED’s low-acuity clinic, managing minor procedures and urgent care-style presentations. It’s a blend of general practice and hospital medicine, with possible weekend on-call, and weekday hours (0830–1730).

The HITH model is part of Queensland Health’s commitment to delivering flexible, high-quality care outside traditional hospital walls. It suits GPs who want to stay sharp across a range of presentations while being part of a clinically respected, patient-focused service, and innovating for the future.

Dates Available

  • 30 June – 4 July 2025

  • 28 July – 1 August 2025

  • 25 August – 29 August 2025

  • 8 September – 12 September 2025

  • 13 October – 19 October 2025

  • 20 October – 24 October 2025

  • 17 November – 23 November 2025

  • 1 December – 7 December 2025

  • 15 December – 26 December 2025

Benefits Provided

  • $1,950 per day – payroll with salary packaging or PTY Ltd invoicing available (paid weekly)

  • Travel covered – flights or mileage up to $1,000

  • Accommodation & car – up to $150/day (plus one travel day)

  • Car hire only – $60/day when accommodation is arranged separately

  • Prescript concierge support – we manage your credentialing, logistics and onboarding from start to finish

Why This Role Matters

This isn’t just a locum — it’s a step into a future-facing care model already delivering results. Bundaberg’s HITH program gives patients hospital-level care at home, frees up hospital beds, and empowers patient recovery in familiar settings. It also gives you, as a GP, the chance to practise across ED-adjacent urgent care with the support of an efficient, collaborative hospital team.

Bundaberg offers more than sunshine—it’s a gateway to the Southern Great Barrier Reef, with national parks, friendly locals, and an easy-going lifestyle that’s hard to beat.

What We’re Looking For

  • FRACGP (or equivalent)

  • GP with confidence in urgent care and minor procedures

  • AHPRA specialist registration

Feeling burnt out? Locum work could be the circuit breaker you need

Burnout affects more doctors than many would like to admit. You’re not alone if you’ve started feeling disconnected from the work you once found deeply rewarding. Long shifts, relentless rosters, and system pressures can wear down even the most committed clinicians.

But it doesn’t have to be the end of the story.

At Prescript, we partner with doctors who are ready for something different - something more flexible, more fulfilling, and more sustainable. Locum work could be the reset you didn’t know you needed.

What makes locum work such a powerful alternative?

It’s not just about stepping away from the familiar—it’s about reconnecting with the purpose behind your practice. Locum roles offer flexibility, variety, and real-world impact. Here’s how:

Make a difference where it matters most

Locum doctors are often the reason a rural hospital or clinic can keep its doors open. Your skills can provide continuity of care in communities that would otherwise go without.

Step into new settings—and grow

Whether it’s a remote retrieval base, an Aboriginal Medical Service, or a regional ED, each locum placement gives you exposure to new challenges, settings, and teams. You’ll sharpen your clinical skills and broaden your professional perspective.

Take back control of your time

With the flexibility to choose when and where you work, you can build a schedule that suits your life—not the other way around. Whether you're seeking a long-term break from permanent work or a few weeks to reset, locuming puts the decision-making back in your hands.

Earn well—without burnout

Locum rates are often significantly higher than salaried positions, particularly in more remote areas. It’s a chance to build financial stability without compromising your wellbeing.

Reignite your passion for medicine

Changing your environment can do wonders for your mindset. We’ve seen doctors rediscover why they chose medicine in the first place—simply by stepping into a new role, in a new place, with the right support behind them.

Your next chapter starts here

At Prescript, we specialise in perfectly placing doctors in regional and remote roles - locum, telehealth, or permanent. We’ll manage the logistics, sort the paperwork, and be your partner every step of the way.

If you’re feeling stuck, stretched, or simply ready for a change, explore our locum opportunities. It might be the most rewarding move of your career.
